Intercoast - Tauranga Business Case

Intercoast is a research project that focuses on the impacts of global, climate and environmental changes in coastal and shelf-sea areas, such as the Bay of Plenty. It is run as an international research collaboration between the University of Bremen in Germany and the University of Waikato.

Scientists from the two universities, the Port of Tauranga, Bay of Plenty Regional Council and Priority One are putting their financial support behind the project and the German Governments Science Foundation has contributed several million dollars.

The Tauranga region stands to benefit hugely from the research work being done as part of the Intercoast project. The project will investigate the impacts of harbour development on ecosystems, business opportunities within the aquaculture industry, the impacts of global and environmental change, and the protection and utilisation of the harbour and coastline.
