ICT is a key focus area for the Tauranga region. A local ICT cluster brings together more than 450 members from over 200 ICT and related businesses. These businesses aim to create commercial opportunities and contribute their experience and expertise to the development of an IT rich region. There are also a number of ICT networking and special interest groups that meet regularly.
Several specialised software houses have developed products to support the region’s main sectors: horticulture and transportation, distribution and logistics. There is also a strong export focus for ICT products.
The area attracts top ICT graduates from the University of Waikato and Bay of Plenty Polytechnic.
Plans are underway for the Nautilus Technology Park, an 11,000m² state-of-the-art technology business park, near to the Tauranga central business district. The park will specifically meet the needs of the rapidly growing information & communications technology sector. Local businesses and those from around the country are attracted by the opportunity to do business in purpose designed facilities, surrounded by like-minded companies.
