Seatrade New Zealand

Seatrade is the largest operator of refrigerated ships in the world. The business carries refrigerated and temperature sensitive cargo as well as container cargo on the decks of its ships. Seatrade run a service to New Zealand that puts a ship into Tauranga every 7 days.

Michael Evans established the company in Auckland 13 years ago and in 2008 decided to move Seatrade New Zealand to Tauranga, strategically positioning the business in close proximity to it’s largest customer Zespri International.

Operating New Zealand’s fastest refrigerated shipping service to Europe, Seatrade takes Zespri kiwifruit from the coolstore at Port of Tauranga, directly to the coolstore in Zeebrugge, Belgium in 27 days.

The move to Tauranga has provided operational efficiencies in the business, which has flowed on to cost savings for Zespri and other customers. Seatrade nominated the Port of Tauranga as their ‘home port’ so ships come to Tauranga to discharge cargo and empty containers.

Chilled meat shippers and wine shippers across New Zealand are looking at Seatrade’s service to Europe with considerable interest.

The move to Tauranga was received well by the team members who relocated. They love the lifestyle and accessibility of facilities, services and recreational activities.

Michael Evans talks about the benefits of relocating Seatrade New Zealand to Tauranga and strengthening relationships with key customers and business partners.
