Case Studies

Bidvest, a nationwide food distribution company, was sending seven trucks a day from Rotorua to supply fresh food and ingredients to Tauranga cafes, restaurants, bars, clubs and hotels. A review of its business operations and of regional business and population growth statistics identified that a business base in Tauranga would be a strategic investment.

Bidvest purchased land in the Tauriko Business Estate; providing vehicles with easy access to the Tauranga CBD, the Coromandel, Thames Valley, Waikato and Eastern Bay of Plenty. This location significantly reduced travelling times and provided greater efficiency, increased market share and enhanced customer service.

Custom built to provide the potential to double the size and capacity of operations, the Bidvest site at Tauriko has been operating since May 2011. Bidvest relocated 17 families from Rotorua and 40 new Tauranga employees joined the team to launch operations. Since then, Bidvest has experienced significant growth and expansion of its business offering and operational footprint.

Ken Buckthought talks about the decision to grow the Bidvest business into Tauranga, the relocation of employees, local employment and future growth opportunities for businesses in the region.
